UNE partners with CME to offer IELTS preparation

The Centre for Macquarie English (CME) at Macquarie University is to supply online IELTS preparation for the University of New England (UNE). An agreement was signed between the two institutions in early January 2011 to seal the partnership.

UNE is launching an upgraded English language support program in 2011 for its international students, to help them achieve high levels of English proficiency on graduation, thus enhancing their employability.

The Centre for Macquarie English (CME) at Macquarie University is a leading developer of online English language courses, and now the high quality of its web-based preparation modules for the IELTS Test has been recognised by a fellow NSW University - UNE.

Dr. Vernon Crew, Director of UNE’s English Language and International Services, selected CME’s IELTS Master 90-day online course as it offers over 100 hours of comprehensive preparation in all the skills, hundreds of interactive activities, listening and self-recording functions, practice tests and sample answers.

Dr. Crew said “I felt that CME’s IELTS Master offered the best all round quality preparation for IELTS and will be a valuable addition to our face-to-face language support”. CME’s IELTS Master will give UNE’s international students a thorough understanding of the language requirements of this rigorous and internationally-recognised proficiency test.

Mr. David Wright, Managing Director of Access MQ said “We are pleased to have UNE recognise CME’s IELTS Online as a leading IELTS preparation program.”

The first cohorts of UNE students are expected to begin CME’s IELTS Master mid-year, with up to 200 students taking the course annually.

UNE’s English Language Centre staff look forward to a productive partnership with CME in supporting UNE’s students as they work towards their professional goals.
